The textile industry is one of the most polluting industries in the world. According to estimates by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, around 92 million tons of textile waste are produced worldwide every year, which corresponds to 4% of the total global waste volume. At the same time, production is energy-intensive: the manufacture of textiles causes around 1.2 billion tons of CO₂ emissions per year. The business model of fast fashion, which is based on mass production, low-cost production and short life cycles, is particularly problematic. Innovate 2030 followed a Design Thinking approach to develop creative solutions for the complex challenges in fast fashion.


Through cooperation and collaboration on the TEX-DAN – Moving forward with circularity in textile and fashion value chains project at the Paris-Lodron University of Salzburg (Austria), Department of Business Administration, Marketing Unit and FH Salzburg (Austria), Department of Business & Tourism/Marketing, we have acquired expertise in the area of
